The good, the bad and the……
Its been 3 months I entered the blogging world. What started as a small window into my baking world is soon turning into bull blown, new adventures filled full time job. Of course, my main goal was to work from home and in trying to see what I can and cannot do, I stumbled upon blogging and realized I want to try it, learn it and really try something new out of my comfort zone.
A little bit about me before I start the obvious of this blog post. I am very private person – in terms of social media. I was using facebook like once in 6 months or post something or to check what my friends are upto. No Instagram, Twitter or Pinterest. Yes, I know they existed and are very popular but I never used them per se. Little did I know when entering the blogging world, that they would become my world.
In my initial IT days, one of the tutors told us “If you are not having nightmares about something new you are learning, then you are not 100% into it”. So true and totally applies to this phase of my life. I am having dreams but not nightmares though, lol. When I decided to write about my experience of 3 months of blogging, my mind was exploding with all the points I want to put out there. But I feared it will be like newspaper than the blog post. So, I divided them into 3 categories. Read on….
The Good
- I guess it goes without saying, but I want to say it. Learnt whole lotta new stuff – Blog, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Canva, WordPress, Wix.
- Blogging – big world, yes….literally. Yes, I read, liked and commented on thousands of blog posts on everything from food to fashion and East to West. But the number of elements it takes to put a blog post out, definitely got a new respect out of me. Pictures, grammar, fun, punch lines heck punch words, photography(big thing) and much more.
- Photography – Someone very dear said this – ‘On a food blog, Your eyes are the first ones to feast – so make your photos say it all’. So true. I learnt a thing or two about myself first in this dept. I always used to think I didn’t get my mom’s creativity gene. I was proven wrong. Everyone who saw my blog, their first comment was about the photos. I am very happy to know the new side of myself.
- Learning new stuff not just about the blog. Proofs: (1) Nutella jar has 52 hazelnuts and (2) Pineapple is bunch of berries and (3) Banana is the biggest serving of the fruits. Yes, they are fun facts mostly but its really cool to say it to the world and also to your family to start a discussion.
- Writing skills – Not bad. That’s what I would say to myself. And believe me, I never wrote so many words, creatively (atleast to me) or otherwise. Researched or analyzed so many things before putting it out there.
The Bad
- Writing Platform – I mean not literally. You need to know bit of coding if you want few features which do not come already with the theme you selected. Help is there depending on your theme and plan you select. But it really goes as far as the plan. As they say, you get what you pay for.
- Expectations – I had to lower my expectations a lot in terms of what’s easy, what works and what comes with whole lot of hard work after first month of blogging. Stuff I thought would be piece of cake before starting the blogging was the most time consuming. Learn and adjust as you go.
- Time Management – If you suck at managing the time, everything sucks. Its very difficult to stop and go with your other daily routine of your life which existed before blogging came along if you cant manage your time. You should know when to stop dwindling down the spiral of blogging world.
And the……
I didn’t knew if the below stuff is good or bad as I am still weighing on them. And I think its too soon to turn them on either side of the aisle.
- Creativity – Bottomless pit.
- Restless mind – My mind would start thinking as soon as I wake up. Sometimes I like it. Sometimes I don’t.
- Likes, Followers, comments, engagements – Everything and anything around social media and blogging matters, even though you don’t want it to be. As I said I am not sure if its good or bad.
- More props as in plates, napkins, cutlery which MAY work for my photos are accumulating. Before you go thinking, my kitchen had few bare shelves from past 12 years. I have traces of OCD. If I see a pile, I throw it out or send it to basement one way or other. My family can attest to that. But all these props are being collected now as part of ‘blog’ and sitting on top of my regular and simple kitchen stuff. We will see where it goes.
There might be more or less in my next summary. But for now, these are the points I want to highlight. If you have read it this far, I know you are in the blogging world or atleast trying to start new. Let me know what is your experience, what you are thinking or any comment or suggestion. Anything is up for discussion.
Your turn !!

I have been blogging for approximately 4 years now, and just recently share in co-administrating another blog site. I realize the saying “you get what you pay for” may be a small part of it; but conveying my passion, regardless of others interests, is more of what keeps me ‘pressing on’. Pictures and photography are a “grabber”, but CONTENT is EVERYTHING. Some, like me, will not have the financial ability to invest too much into the project, or a “Premium Plan”. For others, their skill in just being able to navigate a computer, may take a lot of effort. We don’t all have “digital cameras” or other “equipment” necessary to ‘take it to the next level’, so to speak. My personal blog (just mentioning) has just 3 “followers”, so I have literally “surrendered” the outcome of my blogging success to God’s Providence, and not viewer attention! I do get “much” ‘attention’ from the shared site; but it has NEVER been all about me to begin with! Your own personal success in the “blogging world” is all about VISABILITY, and surrendering the outcome, as with Life Itself, to that ‘someone’ or ‘something’ that sustains you, keeps you going. Self-pity must be eradicated from your mind and replaced with hope. Blessings to you and your new endeavor. It looks like you are off to a great start! Timothy

It sounds like we started blogging around the same time! I can definitely relate to a lot of your points. It’s a lot to learn, between writing the actual posts, social media, photography. I am constantly making new to do lists just to get things out of my head so I can go on with my day!

Thank you for the post. Makes me feel less alone in the new blogging world lol.
I am very new to blogging as well. I think I took about 2 months of playing with the design and had about 7 draft posts before I finally muster the courage to announce my blog lol. Initially, my challenge was in terms of inviting my existing Facebook friends to like it. I felt pretty shy about it actually. But bite the bullet and did it. I certainly underestimated the amount of work needed. And you are right that it is a bottomless pit and writing the actual blog post is like a factor in it amongst so many other factors. There are many challenges ahead but I think for now, my main challenge is in how to drive traffic from my Facebook to the blog itself. Sooooo much to learn but so interesting.

You are welcome. Yes, Our friend’s list can go only so much in terms of traffic. But I really like how you ended your comment. “So much to learn but so interesting” – My thoughts are exactly the same. Pls, don’t feel shy if you need any help. I am no expert as you can see, but I can definitely help.
